Modern Glass Window Pool

Location: Bondi, Eastern Suburbs

Project: Pool Design & DA Approvals

We were engaged for the pool design for this compact Bondi backyard. The challenge was making a new pool look like it had always been there.

Raising the pool above the paving was the decision that changed everything. Instead of a hole in the ground, you get a body of water sitting at eye level, visible from the house and the terrace, with a glass pool window letting you see straight in.

The green mosaic pool tiles are the part people notice. Half the pool sits under canopy, and a pale interior would have gone flat and grey in the shade, so we went deeper. The colour shifts through the day, bright aqua where the sun hits, closer to jade under the tree, with the garden reflected across the surface in the late afternoon.

Sandstone cladding and honed concrete pool coping keep the built edges calm and warm alongside the existing timber and planting. Frameless glass pool fencing meets AS 1926.1 without slicing a small yard in two.

A good example of what considered pool design can do on a tight Eastern Suburbs block when the pool is designed into the garden rather than dropped into it.
