Pool Registration

If you're a pool owner, you probably already know that you should have registered your pool by now. There's a new NSW government requirement: all pools must be registered with the state and inspected by the local government. Many people are finding that they need to make a few improvements in order to get their pools area / zone safe.

Some of our customers have decided that as long as they need the compliance upgrades, they may as well have the renovations they've been thinking about done at the same time. Combining renovations with compliance upgrades makes a lot of sense. Some renovations lend themselves to coordination with common upgrades and once you've engaged a designer and contractor, you may as well get all of the work done in one go.

What are the New Requirements?

The new requirements were put into force because of safety concerns. Pools can be hazardous to small children and animals. Following a few simple guidelines in the design of the pool area can greatly reduce the risk of injury. THis is what you must do:

  • You must register your pool with the New South Wales Government. People who fail to register their pools will be facing fines.
  • Starting in 2014, your local government will be inspecting pools. They'll let you know if any changes are required.
  • Starting in May of 2014, they'll start inspecting commercial and institutional pools, too.

When you register your pool, the website will walk you through the requirements and you'll be able to perform a self-assessment and prepare for the inspection. You may find that you need to make changes to things like fence height, climb-ability, bar spacing or the type of gate latch you're using.

Pool Renovations Our Customers are Asking For

If you do find that you need to make major changes to your pool fence or pool gate, then it may be the right time to make other changes, too. Perhaps you'd like to improve the landscaping around your pool or add a pool house or pool shed to the perimeter. Maybe you'll want to add a solar or gas heating or make changes to the swimming pool design. Maybe you'd like to fit out the pool area with an outdoor kitchen for parties and barbecues.

Whatever you decide, Space Landscape Designs is here to help you meet the new Government requirements and, just as importantly, create the perfect outdoor space for you, your family and your friends to enjoy.
